Many people in football recruiting circles are tabbing the class of 2009 as a class that is just not that strong as far as top tier prospects are concerned, but the Midland region has come on in a big way. Currently there are seven players from the region listed on the Scout.com Hot 100. Take a look inside for the complete list.

You should just call it the year of the running back in the Midland region….

Sitting atop the rankings is the always impressive Bryce Brown. At 6-foot-0, 208 pounds, the five-star running back checks in as the second ranked player in the entire country, and he could make a run at number one by the time it is all said and done. Brown has drawn comparisons to a number of players and while many players may not have the physical intangibles of Bo Jackson, that is who comes to mind when trying to make a comparison. He is just that exciting on the high school level. He has speed, power, and vision.

Gabe Lynn
It may be the year of the back in the region, but the number two prospect, Gabe Lynn, is one of the most highly recruited defensive backs in the entire country. He basically holds offers from all of the Big 12 schools and has also added scholarship opportunities from schools like Tennessee, Miami (FL), and North Carolina. Lynn is a complete defensive back. He has the size and speed that college coaches covet at the corner position. In addition he also has great hips and the speed to hang with any receiver. He is also a threat on special teams returning kicks.

Three more running backs made it in to the regional Top 10 in David Oku (3), Ronnie Wingo (4), and Jeremy Smith (6) and all three players are special but vastly different type of backs. Oku, a slasher, has the genuine speed to take it to the house anytime he puts his hands on the ball. Wingo is a prototypical running back that has a well blended game of power and speed. Smith does not have the speed of Oku or the size of Wingo, but he has tremendous vision and an uncanny ability to make his move at the perfect time.

The top ranked defender in the region is Colorado defensive end Nick Kasa. At 6-foot-7, 235 pounds, he has tremendous athletic ability and a great frame to evolve in to a real monster on the next level. He was one of the more impressive players in person at the Army Combine in January, and has the film to back up what you see with your own eyes. While there are a number of impressive players ranked ahead of him Kasa has the physical abilities and potential to make a rise in the rankings at any point this year.
