The 11th annual FCA Combine has been all set for Saturday morning at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock, Ark. and a number of high profile prospects are set to attend, but this event will provide an opportunity for under the radar players to get some exposure.
“What I love about this is it gives those kids who would never get a shot,” Combine director B.J. Maack explained of the positives of the event.
“Every year there are one or two guys who get the chance to play college ball because of this event and every year that makes it worth it. There is always that kid who needs that one chance to shine. Dr. Ken Martin in Little Rock has been involved in this event every year and he makes it all possible so that we do not have to charge the kids.”
Here is a look at some of the more recognizable names that have pre-registered to attend the event.
At quarterback the two big names are going to be Phillip Butterfield from Lake Hamilton High and Griffin Kuhn from Little Rock Christian.
The running back position will obviously have many athletes, but the name that immediately jumps out is Ole Miss commitment Turrell Williams from West Helena. Justin Bigham from Dewitt Senior will be a fullback to keep an eye on.
At the wide receiver position Lake Hamilton has a deadly duo in Josh Proffit and Tauno Vanucci.
The two brightest stars at the event are probably West Helena’s Darius Winston and Bryant’s Dijon Benton and they may also work out at receiver. Winston is one of the most highly sought after recruits in the entire country and will get a chance to show Scout.com that he belongs in the National Top 300. Benton is a prospect that many colleges are keeping a very close eye on.
Vilonia’s Tyler Stauch will be holding it down along the offensive line with Pulaski Academy star Austin Noonan. Anthony Rogers from North Little Rock is supposed to be one of the state’s top defensive ends.
Two linebackers to watch are Devin Ball from Junction City and Weston Fairchild from Batesville. Fairchild earned Scout.com All-Combine honors after a successful performance earlier this year in San Antonio.
West Helena has a number of stars, but cornerback Deondra Johnson will be looking to make a name for himself as well. Dollarway athlete Jess Grandy will be working out at quarterback, but will most likely be a defensive player on the next level at corner. Keep an eye on Michael Belin from Bearden and Greg Carter from El Dorado.
