Morton High School (Hammond, IN) is home to 6'2, 185-lb Wide Receiver/Safety Shevin Williams. Last year, Williams put together an impressive junior campaign which earned him junior All-State, 2nd Team All-Conference and All-Area honors.
With his size, athleticism (also plays basketball and runs track) and penchant for the big hit, Williams is starting to attract the attention of college recruiters.
"I have letters from Purdue, Louisville, Indiana and Northern Illinois," he reported, "I haven't been to any junior days yet but I'm going to Toledo on April 5th."
Williams started every game at strong safety last year and only saw limited time at wide receiver, but has a lot of potential there and will have more of a role as an offensive threat this season, as he says he plans to see time at running back.
Although he could develop into a fine pass catcher down the line, right now, his likely college position is in the box, supporting the run as a safety.
"I'm strong, fast and a hard hitter," he said of his strengths, "I was mostly used in run support, I wasn't asked to cover as much."
While he has yet to receive an offer, Williams' recruitment has barely left the ground as he has not been to many camps, junior days or unofficial visits. He says that plans to change soon as he starts to sift through his future plans.
"I'm looking for good academics, a good football team, good coaches and good environment. I don't know when I'll decide, I want to wait and see who has the best offer for me."
