Priorities

Quarterback Cody Green says that academics are his top priority. "I'm going into animal science and thinking about majoring in marine biology, so I want a school that offers that kind of program," Green said. "I just want to be happy wherever I am. It's four years of my life so I want to like where I am. I want to go where I'll be just as happy if we're 10-0 or 0-10..."

Cody Green, the 6-foot-4, 220-pound five-star quarterback from Dayton, Texas, only played in two games during his junior season after suffering torn ligaments in his right ankle. Green had surgery in late September and is now running and rehabbing his ankle.

"I'm good at running and throwing," Green said. "I'm a dual-threat. I have good moves and quickness. I always get the whole team into it too. I try to get everyone into the game."

Green, ranked as Scout.com's No. 3 quarterback nationwide, claims to run a 4.7 forty. He's working on improving his footwork and accuracy. "I want to throw with more precision and I'm working on throwing a lot. I'm always working with my receivers…just throwing them the ball."

He says he can bench press 315 pounds and squat 375.

Green has around 10 scholarship offers and says he's still very open. "I really haven't sat down and made a list yet," he said. "I haven't had a lot of time to think about recruiting much. I'll have my top five by the beginning of summer and I'll probably commit by the start of the season. I'm graduating in December, so I'll definitely make my decision early."

While Green says he's still "wide open", he also admits to favoring LSU and Texas A&M slightly over Houston, Nebraska, Baylor and Miami. All of his favorites have offered as well as Purdue, Texas Tech and Mississippi State.

He says the Tigers and Aggies are recruiting him the hardest and he's attended junior days at both schools. "I met a lot of cool people at LSU," he said. "I really like the coaching staff. They have great chemistry with the players and seem like cool guys. Coach Les Miles is real down-to-earth and he's not who you think he is when you just see him on TV. He's actually real soft-spoken and nice in person."

Baton Rouge is about five hours from Green's house and he admits that distance will be a factor. "I'd like to stay in a range so that my friends and family could see me play," he admitted. "I haven't really thought about what the furthest is I'd go, but A&M is about two hours away and Houston is only 35 minutes from here."

Green got his original offer from A&M when coach Dennis Franchione was still the Aggie head man, but says the new staff continues to honor his offer. "It was really cool to meet the new coaches and they let me know that my offer still stands," he said. "I was really impressed with the coaches. They are real professional and come from the NFL. I liked picking their brains and it seems they really know what they are talking about."

He also plans to attend junior days at Alabama and Oklahoma State, but neither the Tide nor the Cowboys have offered yet.

"Nebraska just started recruiting me pretty hard recently," he said. "The quarterback coach (Shawn Watson) called my coach and told him they were interested. I got to talk with him for a bit and they really want me to check them out. I think the new coaches are great and I like the success they've all had in the past. I don't really know much about Nebraska though. The only things I know about them are what I've seen on TV."

While the 'Canes are quite a distance away, Green admits he's drawn to their tradition. "I love their winning tradition," he said. "They've always had a winning program and they are getting back on track. Coach Wesley McGriff (secondary coach) was at Baylor and recruited me while he was there. Now he's at Miami and he let the coaches know about me and they offered."

Green says that growing up he never followed a specific school, but just loved watching any football game he could. "I love football and I would watch whoever was on," he said. "I'd sit all day on Saturday and just watch every game that was on."

Although football is important to Green, he says that academics are his top priority. "I'm going into animal science and thinking about majoring in marine biology, so I want a school that offers that kind of program," he said.

"I just want to be happy wherever I am," he said. "It's four years of my life so I want to like where I am. I want to go where I'll be just as happy if we're 10-0 or 0-10."

He reports a 3.6 core GPA and is taking the ACT in April.
