| Guerry Collects First Offer | ||||

The Mississippi high school ranks appear to be rather slim this season when it comes to offensive line prospects. One Magnolia stater OL who is making an early mark on the recruiting front is New Hope offensive tackle Jonathan Guerry. Several schools are expressing interest and one school recently upped the ante by offering a Guerry a scholarship. | |||

Jonathan Guerry profile "Southern Miss offered me two weeks ago at their junior day," said the 6-5, 295 pounder. "I like them a lot. It's a good school and they have a really good football program. They really care about your academics too. They have two ladies who look after all of that to make sure you're in good shape." The Golden Eagles are the first school to offer, but they are far from the only school interested in the talented Guerry. "Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Arkansas, LSU and just about all of the SEC schools are writing me. Some other schools like Houston and Duke are too," said Jonathan. "Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Alabama and Duke all seem to be pretty interested." In addition to attending Junior Day at Southern Miss, Jonathan took the trip over to Starkville for Mississippi State's junior day earlier in the month. "I went to Junior Day at State and I got to talk with Coach Reed Stringer," said Guerry. "He said that they were just starting to recruit me and that they were evaluating me right now. I was got invited to Ole Miss' Junior Day, but I got sick and couldn't go." Jonathan is not certain about a time line for his college decision, but he almost brought the process to an abrupt halt a few days ago. "I almost committed to Southern Miss the other day, but I just want to take a little time," said Jonathan. "It's still really early." When decision time comes, Guerry will put a lot of emphasis on the schools that offer his preferred field of study. "I am looking a lot at academics, but all of the schools around here are good," said Jonathan. "I would really like to go into engineering. (Mississippi) State has a really good engineering program. I would like to get an offer from them." Guerry plans to take in summer camps at Alabama, Mississippi State and Southern Miss. |
