Not only does he make big hits on the field, but Keller (TX) Fossil Ridge linebacker Brandon Mahoney is also a big hit with several Division I programs across the country. Right now, the 6-foot-2, 205-pound Mahoney has some Big 12 offers already.
So who does he think is next?
“I think my next offer will come from the Big 10 (conference),” Mahoney said. “I already have offers from Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Kansas, and Arizona. I have interest coming from Iowa, Florida, Illinois, and really most of the schools in the Big 12.”
He admits that no school is an early favorite and has chosen to keep things open. He said that the Arizona offer came as a surprise and feels more are on the way.
Mahoney has already checked out the Oklahoma and Texas A&M programs, but has a few more planned.
“In the next couple of weeks, I will go to the LSU spring game,” Mahoney said. “Then after that I will go see Oklahoma again. I also will go to TCU for a camp.”
Despite not sending out any videos, Mahoney feels like football recruiting is going well for him. In the near future he does plan to send out some tapes.
Of course he feels like that will change his recruitment tremendously.
“Everything has been real good, but I haven’t sent my video out,” Mahoney said. “I think once I do that, I will get more offers.”
His prerequisites (when looking for a school) include a place that is a family environment and coaching he can bond with. He would prefer somewhere where he can start, but either way he wants to come in and make an impact.
Really, he is looking the opportunity to start as a true freshman.
“I want to be cool with my coaches and make an impact my first year,” Mahoney said. “I would prefer a place where there are no surprises. No hidden facts. I want to know what they expect from me in the beginning. I don’t want to be in a place where I don’t like the coach.”
As a junior, Mahoney recorded 85 tackles, four sacks, and an interception returned 40 yards for a touchdown.
