The State of Maryland has a particularly strong recruiting class this season and the Terrapins are taking full advantage of that already. One Maryland native that visited the Terps recently for junior day was Springdale native Brandon Killebrew, an athlete that could play a number of positions. | |||

Charles Herbert Flowers High School athlete Brandon Killebrew will most likely play in the defensive secondary at safety when he hits the gridiron in college, however not all schools are recruiting him to play the position. The 6-foot-1, 210-pounder recently visited Maryland and has been hearing from two new programs as well. “I went to Maryland for junior day and after we checked in the first thing they had us do was watch a highlight video of their 2007 season,” Killebrew said. “After that Coach James Franklin got up and talked about how people perceived that they weren’t recruiting the state hard anymore and how that was entirely untrue. He said he felt that if they could keep Maryland and D.C. kids at home they could win a national championship down the line.” “After he spoke Head Coach Ralph Friedgen came up and just talked about how he wants both quality players and quality people at Maryland,” Killebrew added. “He said he likes hard workers that take pride in their craft. When he got done talking we split up on buses and toured the entire campus and facilities. The locker rooms there were very impressive and I liked that they’re renovating the stadium. One of the other coaches told me that they’d probably want me to come in and play strong safety for them and asked me to come back for the spring game and practices which I’ll definitely be doing.” Killebrew has been hearing from some new programs as well and plans to make a visit at the end of this week. “West Virginia is coming on really hard lately and North Carolina State just started showing interest,” Killebrew explained. “I’m also going to be visiting Navy this weekend with my teammate Jarren Brown.” As a junior, Killebrew recorded 110 tackles, 10 tackles for loss and forced a fumble. He also defended seven passes and intercepted one. This was in nine games. He runs a 4.52 40-yard dash, has a 38-inch vertical leap, runs a 4.2 short shuttle and can rep 225 pounds 26 times on the bench. |
