QB Andrew Shoop 6-2/195 Danville/PA
We saw Shoop on film and we really liked him in our early
evaluation, but our biggest question was about the level of competition that he
was facing. The speed of the game changes tremendously when you are playing on a
team full of D-I athletes and Shoop adjusted just fine. He played seven games on
Sunday and he got stronger as the day went on. Shoop was firing peas. He showed
very good arm strength and accuracy. He took the team and led them to a
championship appearance. Shoop is a definite D-I QB prospect whose stock should
increase dramatically.
WR Jeff Walker 6-3.5/185 Akron/Ohio/Coventry
Walker was the Ohio offense for the most part. He reminded
us a little of another Ohio player who blew up at one of our combines a few
years ago Jeff Cumberland. Walker has an outstanding blend of size, speed and
athleticism. The long strider was tough to cover and any ball that was up in the
air, he was coming down with it. Teams tried to jam him and he was just too
physical for them. He is a little raw when it comes to route running, but
nothing a position coach in college can’t cure.
WR Duwyce Wilson 6-4/185 Columbus/IN/East
Like Shoop, Wilson was a player we evaluated early and
liked a lot based on his film. After seeing him in action this weekend, he may
even be better than we originally thought. Wilson was all over the field for the
Indiana team that advanced to the Quarterfinals. Wilson is very polished and for
a bigger target he moves extremely well. His hands are outstanding; he may not
have dropped one catchable ball all day long. Wilson should start gathering
offers very soon.
S/WLB Gerald Hodges 6-3/210 Paulsboro/NJ
Its tough to call Hodges a sleeper, because he holds
offers, but we had not had a chance to see him prior to this weekend. Hodges
will likely grow into an outside linebacker in college, but he is very athletic
and did an outstanding job for the New Jersey team at safety. He is big, but
fast (4.55) and has tremendous range for a player his size.
CB Deonte Flemings 5-10/170 Erie/PA/Strong Vincent
Flemings is another player we have liked for a while, but
he is still awaiting his first offer. “Ducky” as he is referred to by those who
know him was on lock-down mode the whole tournament. He proved that he could be
out on an island in man coverage and be in control. He had a big pick six for
his team and also played some wide receiver. While playing wide receiver he had
the best catch of the tournament when he skied in the corner of the end zone and
made a great one handed grab.
CB Darrick Scott 5-10/180 Frederick/MD/Thomas Johnson
You want to make a name for yourself? Go to a camp and
cover the best wide receiver in the nation and shut him down, which is what D.J. Scott did. Scott manned up against Logan Heastie and basically limited him to a
few short catches. Heastie tried to get vertical on Scott, but he was more than
up for the challenge. He has great size and speed for a corner prospect which
should make him a hot commodity as the combine and camp circuit begins.
