Alex Logan the 6-foot-2.5, 195 pound safety from Mullen High School in Denver, Colo., finished his junior season (12-1) with 105 tackles and one interception. "I stay deep in the coverage and don't allow anyone to score," Logan said. "I think our team only allowed like two touchdowns all season."
Logan says he can bench 275 pounds, vertical jump 32 inches and run a 4.55 forty. "I can also tackle good and I'm just a hard-hitting and smart player, but I want to improve my one-on-one coverage and my overall covering speed. I run track too and I'm trying to lift four times a week."
Although he only plans to play football in college, Logan runs a 10.9 100 and 21.9 200m.
Logan has offers from Washington and Stanford and says the Huskies lead slightly over the Cardinal, UCLA, California, Oklahoma, Oregon and Arizona State.
"I like coach Tyrone Willingham a lot," he said. "I like how he makes the Washington players do well in the classroom and he's a real good coach. They have fun when they workout and I like that. It's a lot of work, but it seems like a good time."
Logan's brother, Alvin Logan, plays wide receiver for coach Willingham and the Huskies. "My brother tells me not to worry about recruiting too much and to not take it personally if a certain school doesn't offer. He supports me, but he wants me to go to Washington so that we could play together. I think it would be great to play with my brother. That's definitely a plus."
Washington is actually the only school that Logan has already visited and he hasn't gone to any junior days, nor does he plan to go to any school-sponsored camps this summer. He will be attending the Under Armour / Scout.com Combine in Phoenix, Ariz., on May 24.
Although he hasn't visited Stanford yet, Logan says he's eager to check out Palo Alto. "I've heard it was a great place," he said. "The academics are great there and the coaches seem good and like they've got the team on the rise."
In addition to academics, Logan would like to play for a winning team. "I'd like a team that's heading in the right direction," he said. "I want to go in and make an impact. I'll consider going anywhere if the team is good and I like it there.
"I'd really like to get it out of the way before my season starts and just be able to play football my senior year without worrying about where I'm going to college."
Logan says that all the other schools he likes are recruiting him, but he hasn't talked with them about offering yet. "I got invited to the Oregon camp, but I'm really not hearing too much from them," he said. "But I really like them. They had a real good season and you can tell they are going to be good for a while."
As impressed as Logan was with the Ducks in '07, he says the team that surprised him the most was Arizona State. "They really impressed me last year," he said. "I didn't expect them to do so well, but I was real disappointed when they lost to Texas in the bowl game. But it was still a good season."
One of the schools he's most looking forward to seeing play in 2008 is UCLA. "The new coach (Rick Neuheisel) seems to have brought in a lot of good energy and I can't wait to see what he's able to do there and if they can turn it around. Their record next year is definitely something I'll be looking at."
Logan lived in Virginia for several years and says he used to follow Virginia Tech. "We moved to Virginia when I was like 5 and then we moved to Colorado when I was 10."
He says that the in-state schools, Colorado and Colorado State, are also both recruiting him but haven't offered yet. "Oklahoma actually has been sending me a lot of mail recently," he said. "I love their defense. They are such a hard-hitting team. The defense seems to get the message across when they play."
He reports a 3.2 core GPA and is taking the ACT and SAT in April.
