With some of the best talent from all across the nation on hand at Sunday's New Level Athletics/Scout.com 7 on 7 Tournament, it was Tampa Plant's Aaron Murray who rose above the rest of the pack.

There was talent everywhere on the field Sunday at the New Level Athletics/Scout.com 7 on 7 Tournament and one of the strongest positions was quarterback.

None were quite as impressive as Aaron Murray on this day. The rising senior, who had one of the best years statistically in 2007 that the state of Florida has ever seen, looked awesome from start to finish on Sunday. His accuracy, his deep ball, his touch, his competitiveness, everything. He was an absolute joy to watch out there and it's no surprise that it was Murray who led his team to the championship of the whole event.

People are going to knock him because he's not your 6-5 prototype. It doesn't matter. There are a lot of NFL quarterbacks who are only 6-1. They just have that special something that Murray seems to have, the intangibles that you can't teach. Plant coach Robert Weiner, who produced Florida's Mr. Football in 2006 (Robert Marve), has done a great job developing Murray into one of the nation's best quarterback prospects. Consider me sold. Five star quarterback? Check (at least in my opinion).

It's a toss up between Georgia's Zach Mettenberger and Miramar's Eugene Smith for the second most impressive quarterback on this particular day.

Zach Mettenberger
Zach Mettenberger

Mettenberger, a Georgia commitment, has better mechanics, a good delivery, and a rifle for an arm. He teamed up with several kids from Miami Northwestern and looked very impressive. Despite rotating every other series, he was able to get into a groove late in the event and Miami Northwestern assistant coach Jon Drummond, the coach of Mettenberger's team, spoke highly of him throughout the day.

Eugene Smith

Smith has a much different build. He's another tall kid (6-4, maybe even taller) but very skinny -- sort of in the same mold as Florida's Mr. Football in 2007, Jacory Harris. He has a live arm and he has excellent athletic ability and can move around in the pocket really well. He can be hot and cold at times but when he's on, he's on. He'll really benefit from having a good quarterbacks coach in college and when he does, it looks like he'll have a really bright future.

Ryan Becker

Both players entered the day with four stars each on Scout.com and they certainly did nothing to change our minds of those rankings with their performances on Sunday.

Rob Henry

Three quarterbacks without any offers yet who looked like solid Division 1 players were Ocala Trinity's Rob Henry, St. Thomas Aquinas standout Ryan Becker, and Texas standout Bryce Petty. Henry and Petty were on the same team and had a nice rotation going for Team Florida 4. Becker, the MVP of the Class 5A state championship game back in December, isn't the biggest kid in the world but he has a tremendous feel for the game, is well coached, and was throwing a lot of touchdowns on Sunday to his talented trio of St. Thomas receivers. Look for all three of these players to start bringing in some Division 1 offers soon.
