Georgia DT's One Offer, Interest Growing
"Oklahoma State is my only offer so far," Derrick Lott commented. "I have a lot of schools looking at me. I've got USC, Michigan State, North Carolina, Alabama, N.C. State, and a lot of other schools interested in me." "Another school that has shown interest is Florida. They came by my school to see me. Ever since I was a kid, I wanted to play at a Florida school. That's kind of changed now. I want to go to a school that is simply a good fit for me." Lott has an early favorite. "Oklahoma State is my leading school," he reported. "After that it's Alabama, Florida, North Carolina and South Carolina. Those are my top five for now." The Oklahoma State program is doing a stellar job in their recruitment of Lott. "I talk with them a lot," he said. "They always ask about how my school work is going and things like that. They're making me feel very welcomed there. They've sent me hand-written letters. They seem like they really care. They seem really concerned about my academics." Two other powerhouse programs are also showing Lott a great deal of interest. "Alabama and UGA [Georgia] are sending me a lot of mail," he said."Other than Oklahoma State, those schools have shown the most interest. They've invited me to junior days, and they've invited to their spring games. Those schools have sent me the most mail, too." The North-Metro Atlanta star will hit the road over the next two weekends, and he plans to attend as many summer camps as possible. "I'm going to Louisville this weekend," he said. "Then the next weekend on April the 12th, I'll be going to Florida's spring game. I'm supposed to be visiting Alabama really soon. I don't know exactly when yet." "I'm working on going to the Tennessee camp and the UGA camp. I'm working on going to as many as I can. I pretty much want to go to all of the camps that I can. If I can fit a camp in, I'll probably go to it." Lott has played all over the defensive line throughout his high school career. He believes he has the ability to play defensive end at the next level. "I played defensive tackle this year, but I've usually played defensive end," he said. "I can pretty much play anywhere on the defensive line, but I think that I'll be a defensive end in college." "I run a 4.7 (40-yard dash). I'm very explosive off the line. No school has really mentioned any positions." Lott totaled 63 tackles with 10 sacks in 2007, an impressive sack total from the interior of the defensive line. He helped North Cobb to an undefeated regular season and a first round playoff appearance. He is hoping a healthy body will take his game to new levels. "I tore my meniscus at the beginning of the year," he said. I played pretty much the whole season with a hurt ankle and a hurt knee. I've had surgery on my knee. I'm getting healthy right now. I will be recovered 100-percent in a few months." "I'll be faster and have more quickness off the ball. For a big man, I am pretty fast for my size. I want a state championship, and I want at least 100 tackles. I feel like next year that I'll be unstoppable. I don't see anyone being able to block me."
