The nation’s No. 10 cornerback prospect Travis Hawkins held a solid amount of offers the last time we spoke with him, but since then he has collected new ones from some of the top programs in the entire country. The Gaithersburg, Md., product plans on giving every school a fair shake in the recruiting process, but it was obvious the latest batch excited him greatly. | |||

Quince Orchard High School cornerback Travis Hawkins picked up five more offers recently from Michigan, Tennessee, Florida, Oklahoma and Michigan State. The 5-foot-11, 185-pound athlete is being looked at by every team to play defense, however the possibility of adding something to their offense and special teams is something that is attracting Hawkins as well. “Michigan offered me on Saturday, Tennessee on Friday and then Florida, Oklahoma and Michigan State over the past couple of weeks,” Hawkins said. “I don’t know much about Michigan State, but I do know about the other four schools.” Michigan - “I talked to Coach (Tony) Dews and feel really good about that offer. They are a big school with a great tradition of winning football and I definitely want to visit Ann Arbor and see everything for myself.” Tennessee - “Coach Larry Slade and I spoke this week and I always liked Tennessee growing up, so I was very happy about the offer. I even used them in NCAA every time my brother and I played I like them so much. He said I remind them a bit of Mark Jones and think I could play both ways for them. Coach Slade told me he thinks I could be a future 1st round pick at cornerback.” Florida - “I talked to Coach (Billy) Gonzales and he asked me what I knew about Florida. After that he passed me to Head Coach (Urban) Meyer and he said he loved how aggressive I am and think I could make an impact as a freshman for them. I just know they win all the time and was really shocked to get the offer since they’re such a great program. I’m already scheduled to go to their spring game.” Oklahoma - “Coach (Brent) Venables and I talked and he was a really cool guy who said he liked me a lot. He said after the dead period he was planning on flying out here to meet me in person, so I’m looking forward to that. I am definitely interested in Oklahoma because they have a great tradition. He said the thing they liked about me the most was my ball skills.” Asked if he had any current favorites or would be making a decision soon, Hawkins had a very simple reply. “I’m going to give all of these schools a chance. I want to let them see me in person and get to know everyone before I even get into that.” Hawkins now holds 16 total offers from Illinois, Syracuse, Connecticut, Maryland, Penn State, Rutgers, North Carolina State, Virginia, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Cincinnati, Michigan, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Florida and Michigan State. |
