After attending a junior day at Stanford, Fort Bend (TX) Austin offensive linemen Ben Hughes has a good idea about what he is looking for in a university. This past weekend the 6-foot-4, 250-pound Hughes made his way to the state of California and called Scout.com to let us know how everything was.
“It was great. I love Stanford and it is probably my No. 1 school,” Hughes said. “It seemed like here I got to talk with the coaches a lot more than when I went to other schools. They are my favorite school right now without a doubt.”
Other than the academics and the “favorable coaches,” Hughes really felt like this was one of the best visits he has had so far. And though it is still early, he left with a very strong impression of the Cardinal program.
So if an offer came into play, would he make the commitment?
“I think so, but I’m not for certain,” Hughes said. “I know for sure I need to get my grades up first. But when we (recruits) were down there, they said they felt like this group would be the ones to take the Pac-10. They (the coaches) were probably the most entertaining staff I have ever been around.”
The Texas lineman has already been to the campuses of Houston and Rice with SMU coming in the near future. Even still, Hughes is still waiting on his first official offer, but has some promising interest lined up.
“Right now I don’t have any offers on the table,” Hughes said. “But I am hearing from Kansas State, Georgia Tech, Colorado State, Purdue, Syracuse, and Boise State.”
Hughes said that all of the schools mentioned are the ones where he talks to the coaches. He said he feels like Kansas State may be his first offer, but not sure. Hughes next trip will either be to Texas Tech or Kansas State.
