Meet the Players: Interviews with some Top Performers from the UA/Scout.Com Miami Combine
Gabe Holmes
Upside is a word many college coaches use when discussing the potential of a certain player and there wasn’t a single player in attendance with as much of it as Gabe Holmes of St Thomas Aquinas HS. Standing at nearly 6’7 and weighing in at 255 lbs, he already has incredible length and runs as well as many much smaller receivers. He has excellent feet and the weight he will put on will have little to no impact on his speed and agility. My first thought upon seeing him was that before me stands a future NFL offensive tackle but when I saw him run routes, I quickly became convinced that he could flourish as a TE.
I was able to catch up with Holmes for a brief interview and get some perspective on the combine as well as the overall recruiting process.
Read on to see what Gabe Holmes had to say.
BH: “How is the combine going so far?”
GH: “[The combine] is going real good. I’ve performed well in my vertical leap, my 40 yard dash and my shuttle. I did OK in my one on ones.”
BH: “How is the recruiting process going for you?”
GH: “It’s going real good, real good. I have only been playing football for two years now, so I didn’t expect [the offers] to come this fast. But it’s been good.
BH: “Can you give me a quick Top Five?”
GH: “Florida, Auburn, Virginia, Miami and LSU.”
BH: “What offers do you currently hold?
GH: “South Florida, Syracuse and FIU. Virginia and UCF are in the process of offering me, but that’s where we stand right now.”
The list of offers may be a little short right now but expect this number to grow exponentially as colleges begin to take notice of this gem of a TE.
Stay tuned as we get more feedback on the combine and recruiting from many others.
