Illinois Verbal Planning Visits

Lendell Buckner, Scout.com four-star defensive tackle from Chicago-Leo Catholic, (Ill.), gave an early pledge to Illinois. Several schools have extended offers to the elite prospect, and other visits are part of the game plan before signing day.

"I have five offers right now," said Lendell Buckner. "I have offers from Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan State, Colorado and Toledo. The most recent one was from Michigan State."

"There are a lot of other schools showing interest. Mainly every school in the Big 10, and a lot of southern schools are showing interest."

: "I am definitely going to take a lot of visits. I am still committed to Illinois, but I plan to visit Michigan State, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Michigan."

Buckner gave a little more detail of the schools gaining his attention.

Michigan State: "They have a great coaching staff. Coach [Dan] Roushar is a cool person. He really likes me. I really like their facilities. They are going to expand their weight room. Everything is all around each other. It's a great place to play."

Wisconsin: "I haven't checked much about them, but I have heard it's a great place."

Minnesota: "I haven't really checked them out either. I want to get to know more about them."

Michigan: "Since their whole change with the coaching staff I haven't met them. I met the previous coaches. It's a nice place there. I want to go back and meet with them. It's another good place to play."

"I also want to try to go out to Arizona. I have been talking to coach [Bill] Bedenbaugh. I want to see how it is out there. I would like to see them."

Buckner knows the factors which will become a part of the final decision process before signing on the dotted line in February.

"It would have to be who is the there at my position," he said. "I want to play my freshman year. I want to start my freshman year. Illinois, Michigan State and Wisconsin told me I could do that."

"I want to see how the coaches are. I want to see if the coaches are going to stay there. Why build a relationship with the coaches if they are going to leave."
