Montebello (Calif.) Cantwell-Sacred Heart athlete Jeffrey Taylor (6-1, 195) was one of the top players in Southern California last fall, earning Camino Real League MVP honors and all-CIF selection.
Now Taylor is hoping to use his big junior season to get the attention of college coaches.
“Recruiting has been going really good. I’m getting pretty good looks from Oregon, Cal, LSU and San Diego State. I know it’s early still, but the closest I think to offering are Cal and Oregon. Duke, Tennessee and Arizona State are also showing interest in me,” said Taylor.
A SoCal native, Taylor is also interested in USC.
“I’d love to go to USC just like anyone,” said Taylor. “That would be like a dream come true. But I’m open to anyone.”
Taylor plays both receiver and safety, but says he thinks his college future will put him on the defensive side of the ball.
“I would say safety is where I think I’ll end up in college,” said Taylor. “I just want to keep on playing.”
Taylor said when he’s looking at a school, factors such as the education, weather and location will be considered. He’s not in a rush to decide.
“I’d like to take some visits and then decide,” said Taylor.
Taylor had 31 receptions for 605 yards and seven touchdowns in 2007 and defensively had 87 tackles, seven picks and five breakups.
Academically, he has a 2.8 GPA and scored a 1350 on the SAT.
