North Broad Street in Philadelphia, Pa., is always crowded with college coaches whether they are recruiting the awesome talent coming out of Roman Catholic for basketball or football. While Tahir Basil has certainly had his fair share of visitors in school so far he took a few opportunities recently to leave school and check out some campuses for himself. | |||

At 6-foot-2, 250-pounds there are plenty of possibilities for Roman Catholic athlete Tahir Basil at the collegiate level. For a young man of his size he does have nice athleticism and while he is being recruited primarily as a defensive end, this is a player that could end up on the interior lines on either defense or offense as well over time. Recently Basil visited Rutgers, Syracuse and Penn State and talked to us about other things that have been going on. “I went to Rutgers for spring practice and it was nice,” Basil said. “They are very intense in practice and work hard. I got to go into the stadium and see the facilities and was impressed. I also talked to some of the coaches and they told me they like me at defensive end and want to see me at one of their camps this summer.” “I was at Penn State for spring practice and junior day and while the campus is in a remote location it’s really, really nice up there,” Basil explained. “I talked to Coach Larry Johnson and gave him my film and then got to speak with Coach (Ron) Vanderlinden as well. They said they like me right now, but really want me to get to a camp so they can evaluate me further.” “One of the things I like about Penn State is that they’re always sending players to the league,” Basil added. “I was also fired up watching their offensive line in practice as they were so intense. I wanted to throw pads on right there and get in the mix.” Basil also visited Syracuse for the spring game and was invited to camp this summer. He may be heading for visits to Maryland and Michigan State soon and has hosted Pittsburgh and Michigan State recently. Stanford is one of the next schools slated to visit Roman Catholic. |
