Growing up in the Southeast all but guarantees one thing—competition and plenty of it. While this competition makes you a better player, it also means that there will be more people vying for one of the most valuable prizes of all: an SEC scholarship offer. On Wednesday, Gene Robinson woke up with zero, nada. When he went to bed, he had two. Alabama and Ole Miss threw their names in the hat for the services of this versatile DB and we at Scout expect the offers to start pouring in.
“Alabama and Ole miss offered today. I am excited and words can’t explain how I feel right now.” said an excited Robinson.
It’s one thing when you get an offer from a coordinator but another thing altogether when it’s the head man himself.
“Coach Steele offered me and Coach Saban is going to call me either tonight or tomorrow.”
Robinson could hardly hide his excitement and adoration for the Crimson Tide.
“I was at a camp and got to see the facilities. I loved the indoor practice facility and the weight room is awesome.”
Did Alabama impress enough to garner an official visit?
“I’m pretty much open as far as my official visits are concerned but I am going back for an unofficial. I really want to get to know the coaches.”
Knowing the coaches is something Robinson is going to have to do all over again with Ole Miss.
“I have loved Ole Miss since I was a sophomore but with the coaching change, I wasn’t sure what was going to happen with my recruitment. I am so glad I finally got this offer.”
So what does this talented DB out of Memphis do now?
“I am going to keep working hard and pushing my teammates. We are seniors now and we want to win a state championship. I also want to call the whole thing (recruiting process) quits and make a decision by the end of this summer”
When asked about any possible favorites, Robinson gave no clue but did say where we could find his five official visits.
Right now I would have to say Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Memphis, Mississippi, Tennessee and
Vanderbilt are my top seven and my five officials will come from that list.
Gene Robinson is a very physical defender who plays downhill and loves contact but his greatest asset has little to do with his physical skill set.
He is a solid character guy who has already qualified (3.8 Core GPA / 23 ACT) and based on the NCAA academic report that came out on Wednesday, he projects to be a hot commodity.
