One of the key things you want in a quarterback is an intelligent person and that is something that Bound Brook, N.J., native Mike Romanella definitely brings to the table in spades. He carries a 3.886 core GPA right now, is a member of the National Honor Society and scored a blazing 2390 on his SAT. That leaves no surprise as to why the Ivy Leagues are on him hard already.

Mike Romanella, a 6-foot, 175-pound signal caller from Bound Brook High School has the grades, precision and arm to a very nice college quarterback and is hearing from a group of schools very consistently right now. He is coming off a junior year that he completed 114 of 183 passes for 2127 yards and 25 touchdowns and is hoping to start grabbing offers soon.

“It’s been a very busy week with coaches coming through Bound Brook to visit my head coach,” Romanella said. “This week Coach Scott Lakatos from Connecticut was in and so were coaches from Purdue and Buffalo. The Buffalo coach said he’s going to come back again on Friday to spend some more time with my coach and next week Coach Jackson from Syracuse is going to visit as well. We’re still trying to figure out how much interest each has, but it was great to know each had enough to come spend some time with me. Villanova, Georgetown, Monmouth and Stony Brook also visited to learn a little more about me.”

“Two weeks ago my parents and I visited Penn,” Romanella stated. “They have tremendous academic support facilities and faculty. The stadium was beautiful, but the highlights of the trip were our conversations with Coach Priore. I could definitely see myself playing there and hopefully we can get to know the team and staff better of the next year. Our first campus impression was GREAT.”

“Last weekend we drove up to Boston for Harvard’s spring game and I really liked the campus and the atmosphere there. The players took us on our campus tour and their weight room was huge. I felt like I Connecticut with their strength and conditioning philosophy as well. I also really enjoyed meeting and talking with Coach Murphy. He pointed out that they are carrying a 100-percent graduation rate and every player left with an Ivy League title. That left an impression on my parents and me.”

“I still haven’t picked up any offers, but at this point I would have to say I’ve received the most interest from Syracuse, Connecticut, Buffalo, Penn, Harvard and Villanova,” Romanella explained. “I’m really looking forward to Coach Jackson’s visit next week from Syracuse and getting a better feel later this week of Buffalo’s level of interest. We have tremendous respect for Coach Gill and what he has accomplished there.”

Romanella earned All-Conference, All-County and All-State honors as a junior.
