SE Elite Performer: T.J. Hoyt Premium Story

Asst. Regional Manager
Posted May 8, 2008

T.J. Hoyt, wide receiver from Lincoln, (Ala.), was a pleasant surprise at the Under Armour/Scout.com Southeast Elite camp held April 27. He has several schools expressing interest and names five favorites.

"I thought the Under Armour/Scout.com camp was pretty nice," said T.J. Hoyt. "I had the opportunity to compete against some great athletes. There were a lot of great players out there."

"I felt like it was a good learning experience. I picked up a few things I think are going to help me. The camp was a great way to get good exposure. I think I did pretty good."

Hoyt talked about the schools showing interest, and scholarship offers are likely on the horizon after a great camp performance. He was named to the Under Armour/Scout.com All-Camp team.

"Right now I have not received any offers," he said. "Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Georgia, Louisiana Tech and Mississippi State are showing interest. I plan to camp at Alabama, Auburn and Clemson. A few schools I like right now are Alabama, Auburn, Mississippi State, LSU and Georgia."

Alabama: "Their campus is real nice, and the football players are real cool. It's a nice atmosphere, and I get along with the coaches. I feel like I fit in down there."

Auburn: "The coaching staff is real nice. I like their facilities, and their whole football program is one of the best in the nation. They have a real nice campus as well."

Mississippi State: "I don't know too much about them. I think they have a nice football program."

LSU: "I think it would be a real nice place to go. They have a lot of great football players. They are the national champions."

Georgia: "It's not that far from home. I am a big Georgia fan. I have always wanted to be a part of their team."

College assistant coaches are out on the road during spring evaluations with one in-state school taking a trip to northeast Alabama to observe the playmaker.

"Coach [Terry] Price from Auburn came by the school," Hoyt stated. "He told me he likes what he has seen."

The 6-foot-3, 190-pound athlete worked with the receiver unit at the Southeast Elite camp. He is a standout quarterback, but he understands the future as a pass catcher or defender.

"Most schools are recruiting me as athlete," Hoyt said. "Some quarterback, some safety and some wide receiver. I would love to play receiver. My position is quarterback, but I think with my build and my speed I could be a better receiver."

"Last year I passed for over 1,300 yards with 13 touchdowns, and I rushed for 11 touchdowns. I was named All-County."

"We are in spring training, and it is going good. We have a lot of good players back. We have our intra-squad scrimmage tomorrow. Right now I am starting to learn the game more and break down defenses. I am getting stronger and bigger."
