The Idaho High School Football Combine skills tests will be performed at The Athletic Training Center located at 10259 W. Emerald St., Suite 160, Boise, Idaho 83704.

Here are the various performance tests that will take place during the combine/showcase:

10/ 20/ 40 Yard Dash (Surface: Track)
Each athlete will have two opportunities to run for time, and all times will be recorded to the nearest one hundredth of a second. The Brower laser timing system will be used to record the athlete’s 10, 20, & 40 yard times all at once. To convert laser times to handheld times, decrease by .15 seconds.

Standing Vertical Jump
The athlete’s standing vertical jump will be measured using a Vertec system, and recorded to the nearest ½ inch. The athlete’s difference in standing reach and their jump reach will be recorded. Each athlete will get three attempts with the best jump being recorded. A stagger step will not be allowed.

Broad Jump (Surface: Track)
The standing broad jump will be measured as the distance in feet and inches from the starting line to the nearest heel. The athlete will receive two attempts with the best jump being recorded. If the athlete falls backwards or reaches back, the jump will not count and they may repeat the jump.

Bench Press
The athlete will be asked to lift a set amount of weight as many times as possible. The weight and number of reps will be recorded. Lineman, tight ends, and linebackers will lift 185 pounds. Quarterbacks, wide receivers, defensive backs, and running backs will be required to lift 155 pounds. If an athlete cannot lift the required weight, a zero will be recorded. Standardized rules will apply for this test.

Kneeling Power Ball Toss
While kneeling, you heave a Medicine Ball from your chest for maximum distance. The movement resembles a two-handed chest pass in basketball, except the ball is thrust from a kneeling position with an elevated trajectory (30*-40* above level) for greatest distance. This test mimics the pressing and pushing demands of contact sports.

20-Yard Shuttle (Surface: Turf)
Each athlete will receive one attempt. The athlete will straddle a line in a 3-Point stance. The player will run to the left 5 yards, then run right 10 yards, and finally run left 5 yards back through the starting line. The time will begin on first movement and end when the athlete has crossed the finish line. If the athlete falls, they will receive another attempt.

3 Cone “L”-Run
The cones are placed 5 yards apart and placed in an inverted "L" position. The athlete will start in a three/two point stance. He will sprint from Cone A to Cone B and then back to Cone A. Then he will sprint around the outside of Cone B towards the inside of Cone C. The athlete will go around Cone C and back to the outside of Cone B on the way to the finish line at Cone A. Two timers will be used, with the average of the two times being recorded.

Here are the various measurements that will take place before testing:

Height & Weight - Each athlete’s height will be recorded in feet and inches to the nearest ¼ inch, and their weight to the nearest ¼ pound.

Body Fat - Each athlete’s body fat will be measured using the Lange Skinfold Caliper.

Circumference - Each athlete’s circumference measurements (neck, chest, biceps, thigh, and calf) will be taken at the widest part of the muscle and recorded in inches to the nearest 1/8 of an inch.

After the tests and measurements have taken place, the second half of the combine/showcase will be at Bishop Kelly High School. There, the skill position drills and one-on-ones will finish up the day.
You can go to the Athletic Training Center website for registration details, as well as call Jason Wonderlich, Coordinator of Training and Marketing at 208-658-0602 for any questions you might have about the combine/showcase.
