Columbus North has one of the midwest’s best linemen in Matt Krempel. The 6’4, 295-lber has impressive numbers in more ways than one.
“Schools really like that I have a good pro agility time,” Krempel said referring to his 4.59 shuttle time. Krempel also boasts a 425-lb squat, 300-lb power clean and did 21 bench reps at 225-lbs at a recent lineman camp.
Then you have his other numbers: his 3.7 in the classroom, a 27 ACT score and impressive SAT scores that include a 640 in writing. Numbers don’t always tell the story, but Krempel translates his measureables onto the field, as evidenced by his junior All-State selection a year ago. A well rounded player, the big lineman has several schools interested in his services.
“The school recruiting me the most is Northern Illinois,” Krempel reported, “then Cincinnati, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Purdue and Louisville.”
Krempel has already gone on several visits and has a good idea of what it will take for an offer from each program as well as a feel for what he likes in each school.
“Louisville had great coaches,” he said, “I really liked the O-Line and strength coach. Indiana, I really like them, we go to their camp every year as a team, so we have a good relationship there. At Cincinnati, I just love the facilities.”
An offensive tackle in high school, Krempel admits his college future will likely be at guard. This summer, he will hit a number of camps to show the respective schools he can make the switch.
“I’ll camp at Northern Illinois, Cincinnati, Illinois, Purdue and Ohio State, I’ve gone to their one day camp the past couple years. I’ll also go to Iowa possibly if I can fit that in, it’s kind of a long way.”
Krempel will attend this weekend’s Under Armour/Scout.com combine in Cincinnati.
