Sims is drawing attention

Louisiana may not have that “can’t miss” prospect under center but the Bayou State has several quarterbacks capable of making the jump to the next level and having a good college career. One of those guys you may have never heard of but that belongs in that group is Courtney Sims of Shreveport-Huntington.

Courtney Sims split time at quarterback and receiver during his junior campaign and he was rewarded for the job he did under center by getting 1-5A All-District honors as well as All-City recognition by the Shreveport Times.

The 6-2, 195-pounder completed 52 percent of his passes for 1,322 yards and 14 touchdowns during his junior campaign but bigger and better things are expected in his final go round at the prep level.

“Courtney has the athletic ability and arm strength to make many Division-1 college football throws,” said Hunting assistant coach Curtis Evans. “He is often considered a leader on the field and around the campus. Courtney comes from a family of football coaches (father and brother are both high school football coaches) which has increased his knowledge of the game which has helped him read coverages and make adjustments on the fly.”

There has been a long list of college coaches make their way over to Huntington over the past few weeks and nearly all of them were impressed with what Sims could do on the football field.

“Coaches from Oklahoma State University, LSU, Louisiana Tech, Ole Miss, and Michigan have been by this spring to meet with Courtney and watch him during practice,” Evans said. “Every coach who watched film on him was very impressed with his arm strength and accuracy of throws.  Some of the coaches were also impressed with his ability to throw on the run and keep plays alive at all times.”

Sims is sure to get more looks over the coming weeks as he hits the summer camp circuit and that first scholarship offer may be right around the corner.
