"We're in the middle of spring and the team is looking good," Antwan Lowery said. "I'm just playing on defense this year. We're playing against ourselves for our spring game on May 23." Lowery, 6-foot-3 and 330 pounds, finished his junior season with 75 tackles and three sacks. He talked about some of his goals for this coming season. "The biggest one is I'd like to get more sacks, a lot more," he said. "In practice, I'm always facing double teams so I'm sorta getting used to that. But I think I have really good speed and quickness -- especially for someone over 300 pounds." On the recruiting front, Lowery said he now stands at 21 written offers. Of those 21, five currently stand out. "At the top right now I have Florida, Rutgers, Miami, USC, and Michigan," he said. "All five of them have already offered me. I'm just focusing on spring right now and then I'll get back into recruiting." One of the 21 offers he claims is from the hometown school that he always wanted to play for growing up. "I grew up favoring UM," he said. "I just really like their style of play and the great history they have of producing players. I went to a couple of their spring practices and went to their spring game so I've been around. Coach Nix is my recruiting coach and we've talked a few times." Despite having grown up a Canes fan, Lowery says that won't play a role in the recruiting process. "As much as I like UM, I'm wide open with recruiting," he said. "Miami was my favorite but now no one is my favorite. I gotta make my decision based on other things than simply the team I grew up liking." So what are the other factors that Lowery plans to consider for each school when it comes time to make a decision? "I'll look at the academics, my relationship with the D-Line coach, the head coach obviously, the city it's in, the people around the school, how I fit in, and basically just feeling like I'm at home." Inside the classroom, Lowery claims a 2.7 GPA and says he'll take the SAT for the first time on June 7. |
