Schools Eyeing Nick Woods Premium Story

Asst. Regional Manager
Posted May 15, 2008

Nick Woods, running back from Shawnee-Mill Valley, Kansas, is receiving interest and visits from several schools. Woods is a talented running back who rushed for over 1,200 yards as a junior, and college coaches are taking notice.

“I don’t have any offers right now,” said Nick Woods. “I am talking pretty heavily to KU. They are recruiting me the hardest. Navy visited the schools a few days ago. Missouri visited the other day as well.”

“KU, Navy, Missouri, Colorado State, Iowa State, Columbia, Northwestern, Colorado, Drake, Kansas State and Army are sending me mail. I have also received a few letters from Penn and Northern Iowa.”

Woods visited Kansas for their spring game. He plans to return to Lawrence to attend camp as well as Missouri and Kansas State. He lists favorites as Kansas, Colorado, Nebraska, Missouri and Kansas State.

KU: “I like their coaching staff up there. They are real cool. They can understand and relate with you. They have a new weight room facility. I like the atmosphere. I grew up in Lawrence as well.”

Colorado: “I have been there before. I like the atmosphere. I would like to be able to train at that high altitude. I also like their football program.”

Nebraska: “My brother really got me hooked on Nebraska. I like how their fans are and the atmosphere. Their atmosphere is inviting. It’s a place I would like to play.”

Missouri: “I really like how they run the ball with Tony Temple.”

Kansas State: “My brother. [Justin Woods] played there. I got to meet the coaching staff. They get to know you. They make you feel like you are at home. I like the team pride, and the atmosphere is real nice.”

The 5-foot-9, 185-pound back rushed for 1,250 yards during the 2007 season. Mill Valley will not begin spring training until June, and a few areas Woods would like to improve.

“June 5 is when we begin spring training," Woods said. "I am working on getting bigger. I am about 180-pounds. I would like to get to about 195-200-pounds. I want to get quicker reaction. I want to work on my speed and getting bigger. I think my biggest strength is breaking tackles."
