Sources: Shrive to Pull a Stunner

For months everyone in the free world had all but handed Eric Shrive to Notre Dame with Illinois a potential close second place. Well once again we learn in this business that anything can happen and it usually does.

Scout.com has learned through multiple sources that Scranton (Pa.) West Scranton five-star offensive tackle Eric Shrive may have already given a verbal pledge to the staff at Penn State. We are hearing that he will hold a press conference in the very near future to make it official.

This news could not have come at a better time for Joe Paterno and his staff. Nittany Lion fans have been rallying for a change in Happy Valley, but the last week and a half has shown us that the icon can still get it done.

Shrive holds offers from over 40 schools including some of the top BCS programs in the nation. If the reports are true, Shrive could contend for playing time from day one. Line depth is an issue for Penn State and the arrival of one of the nation’s best would go a long way in helping fix the problem.

If our sources are correct Shrive would be the eighth known verbal for Penn State and the fifth pledge this month.

Shrive is a five-star prospect and comes in as the number 23 overall prospect on the latest version of the Scout300.
