Martez Thompson, one of Mississippi's top defensive back prospects, admits to being a little humbled by the recruiting process. The unassuming standout holds a pair of in-state offers and a trio of SEC Western Division rivals may be on the verge of taking the written offer plunge. | |||

Martez Thompson profile "Ole Miss, Auburn and Alabama are all trying to get my transcript now," said Martez. "I had to sign the release for all of them a few days ago. Ole Miss really wants me at their camp. Alabama and Auburn want me to come to their camps too since I didn't go to their junior days." Thompson, who holds offers from Mississippi State and Southern Miss recently had phone conversations with both of his recruiting coaches from those schools. "Coach Hughes called me from Southern Miss and he said to keep working hard and let him know if I need any help with my schoolwork," said Martez. "Coach Washington from Mississippi State asked my what I was waiting for to commit to them. That made me feel pretty good. He acts like they really want me." Martez reports that there is no event, deadline or firm time frame for him to make a decision. He does want to take in some summer camps to get another view of each program showing an honest interest. "I know I am going to Ole Miss' camp, Southern Miss, Alabama, Auburn and Mississippi State's camps," explained Thompson. "Southern Miss is the first one and then Mississippi State. "I feel real good about everything. I am just going to wait it out and probably decide after the season," said Martez. "My dad is real proud for me. He just told me to be patient and don't let anyone pressure me into making a decision before I am ready." |
