| Maryland Speedster Holds an Offer | ||||

Devon Smith transferred from Eleanor Roosevelt High School in Greenbelt, Md., to Westlake High School in Waldorf, Md., last year and because of that, was not able to participate as a junior. For most players that would hold recruiters back from extending early offers, but with what Smith brings to the table some schools aren’t skipping a beat with him. | |||

Devon Smith didn’t play as a junior and measures in at only 5-foot-7, 150 pounds, however he has already picked up a scholarship offer and may have more coming through soon. The reason you ask? Speed, and plenty of it. The diminutive athlete recently ran a 4.25 40-yard dash at The BigTime Showcase and is receiving some big time interest. “I just got my first offer from Akron recently,” Smith said. “They like me as an athlete, a Devin Hester type. They said they think I’d fit in ideally as a slot receiver and also as a punt and kick returner.” “Penn State is a school that has told me they’re planning on offering me, but are just waiting for my ACT scores,” Smith added. “I have a good relationship with their coaching staff and they’ve showed me a lot of love coming in twice to see me at my school. I am friends with Derrick Williams and have learned a lot from him. He says they have a good coaching staff, especially at the receiver position.” Boston College and North Carolina State have also recently visited this speedster and seem very interested. As a sophomore, Smith had a total of 1209 yards out of the backfield and scored 16 touchdowns. |
