Duron Harmon the 6-foot, 195-pound, four-star cornerback/athlete from Caesar Rodney High School in Camden-Wyoming, Del., finished his junior season with 91 carries for 701 yards and 12 touchdowns as a running back. He also caught 15 balls for 275 yards as a receiver. On defense, he had 43 tackles, five fumbles caused and two interceptions.
"I'm aggressive and can come up and make a hit," Harmon said. "I'm very versatile and can play wherever I'm needed. I'm a great athlete and have great speed.
"The main thing I want to improve is getting lower on my back peddle," he said. "I tend to pop up on my back peddle. I also want to be more patient in the secondary and gamble less."
Harmon benches 295-pounds, squats 315 and has a 34-inch vertical jump.
Scout.com's No. 22 cornerback nationwide has offers from Maryland, Pittsburgh, Stanford and Rutgers, but continues to deny a favorite. In addition to the schools that have offered him, Harmon is also considering Boston College and Temple, among others.
"I'm not set yet," he said. "Any school that offers me I'll look at. If you take the time to write me and recruit me, I'll take the time to look into your school."
He says his first offer came from Stanford in February. "They are a great academic school and are a team on the rise," he said. "I really like the Pac-10 and think it's a great conference. Coach Jim Harbaugh talked to me and said he likes me as a safety and that I should really consider giving them a shot.
"The distance isn't a problem," he said. "That kind of opportunity doesn't come along everyday so my parents understand. I don't have to stay closet to home."
Rutgers is another school that is recruiting Harmon as a safety. "They are recruiting me the most," he said. "It's a team that is also on the rise and it's pretty close so my parents would be able to come to my games."
Maryland, on the other hand, is recruiting Harmon as an athlete. "They have good academics at Maryland too," he said. "I like the alumni support they have and all the opportunities they have for athletes. They have a great physical therapy program and that's what I want to major in. They help get you internships in big cities like Baltimore or DC. I really like that because if football doesn't work out I want to do physical therapy."
He plans on attending the Terps' camp this summer.
"I’d like to play early for a team that is winning," he said. "Plus I want to go to a school with a good social life and where I'll have fun. If I get injured I want to actually like where I'm going and not be miserable."
The only school recruiting Harmon for offense is Pittsburgh. "They want me as a running back," he said. "My dad and (wide receiver) coach Bryan Bossard are really close. They grew up together and we have a great relationship with him. He's like an uncle to me.
"I don't want to say it's going to be a big factor, but it'll definitely be a key role," he admitted. "If I went there I know I'd have someone looking out for me and taking care of me. It's not often you can play for a coach that is like family to you."
Expect Harmon to make a decision before his senior season starts. "I want to have a fun senior season and not think about recruiting," he said. "I want to narrow down my list during the summer and choose a school before the season starts."
Harmon said he liked Miami as a youngster, but the 'Canes aren't recruiting him. "I liked their winning tradition and how many players they sent into the league," he said. "Everybody really respected how good they were."
He reports a 3.5 core GPA and is awaiting his SAT results.
