Kevin Danser, the 6-foot-5, 290-pound three-star offensive lineman from Bellarmine College Prep in San Jose, Calif., has scholarship offers from Arizona and Washington and favors the Wildcats and Huskies over California, UCLA, Colorado, Oregon, Northwestern and Oregon State.
"Arizona was my first offer (April)," Danser said. "I like the coaches there and that they are all pretty young. I feel like I can really relate to them and get along with them. I also like the location a lot. It's a nice place, although it can get a little hot."
Danser says he never followed a specific school growing up. "I just enjoyed watching football," he said.
His brothers are both offensive linemen in college. Tim Danser attends Brown, while Chris Danser goes to the University of San Diego. "My brothers are a lot of help," he said. "They tell me to keep a level head and not to think about things too much. They just said to find coaches that I think are honest with me."
His dad attended Cal, but didn't play any sports for the Bears. "I like the coaches at Cal," he said. "I talked with coach Jeff Tedford and he seems like a good guy. They really know the game and they all seem to have a good head on their shoulders."
Berkeley is only 30 minutes from Danser's home, but he says distance won't be a factor. "I want to be in a good location, but I don't care if I'm close to home," he said. "I just want to play in a good football atmosphere. I want to be in an environment that I really like and feel comfortable in."
Besides Cal, Danser has already visited UCLA as well. "It's hard not to like UCLA," he said. "It's beautiful there. Plus, the weather is great. They have everything there. They really have a lot to offer.
"I also like coach Rick Neuheisel," said Scout.com's No. 48 offensive tackle prospect. "He's a real high energy and fired up-type coach."
Another coach that Danser likes is Washington head man Tyrone Willingham. "He used to coach at Stanford so he recruits this area well," he said. "I like how he has them improving every year and how hard they play every game. He's really working hard to get the players that they need to get to the next level."
He's never been to Washington and is unsure about which camps he's going to attend this summer.
"I've also heard great things about Oregon," he said. "They are supposed to have great facilities and I like how they are always a top team."
Danser did manage to squeeze in a visit to Northwestern and was impressed. "They are really recruiting me hard," he said. "I think they'll end up offering. I know they have great academics and I really enjoyed myself there. It's a nice area."
He says he doesn't max out, but can bench 185 x 15 and squat 405 five times. He has a 25-inch vertical jump. "I like to be physical and I like to run block," he said. "I like the nasty side of the game and just love overpowering the guy in front of me.
"I want to improve my footwork and get better leverage," he said. "You can never get low enough."
Danser reports a 3.6 core GPA and is waiting on his SAT results. He is retaking the SAT in June.
