A look at Walton High defensive end David Paulsen…
Georgia DE Names Top Five
"We finished spring training this past Friday," said David Paulsen. "We had an scrimmage with ourselves. I got a lot more work in at tight end this spring. I feel like I improved my pass blocking. I also improved my pass rushing at defensive end." "This summer I am working with a defensive line coach. I am going to work on my pass routes as well. I am going to keep lifting and running. I want to continue to get better all the way around." "We had a ton of coaches come by this spring. We had about 35 coaches visit. We had coaches from Vanderbilt, Wake Forest, Michigan, Miami of Ohio, Central Florida, Iowa, Stanford and Mississippi State. It was a pretty good crowd." Paulsen plans to attend camps at Iowa, Vanderbilt and Wake Forest. He is considering Rutgers and Maryland camps as well. He has received scholarship offers from Stanford, Miami of Ohio, Army, Air Force and Western Carolina. "Since last year I played nose tackle and H-back," Paulsen said. "College coaches want to see me as a tight end catching passes, and they want to see me as a defensive end coming off the edge. They just haven't seen it yet. Hopefully I can go to a couple of these camps and get a chance to show them." The 6-foot-3, 240-pound prospect does not have a position preference as he continued, "I think it would be really cool to play tight end or H-back. I think I could do my best at one of those positions and get more playing time, but I will play wherever the coach wants me. I could play anywhere. I have some coaches recruiting me for defensive tackle, linebacker and fullback as well." Paulsen lists favorites as Stanford, Vanderbilt, Wake Forest, Iowa and Rutgers. Stanford: "I love almost everything about Stanford. The academic support is huge. The location is great. Palo Alto is awesome. The coaching staff seems like they love their players." Vanderbilt: "It's really close to home. That is a plus. It's in the SEC, and you play against the best teams in the country. Vanderbilt is on the rise and a great academic school. I could see myself getting good playing time." Wake Forest: "I like how it's a small school. You have a lot of things is common with people who are there. Almost half the student body are athletes. It's close to home. They have won 10 games the last two years." Iowa: "I have a lot of family in Iowa who live right in Iowa City. I think it's cool how they are basically the only team in Iowa. It's a great campus. It's like an Athens, Georgia. They have great facilities, and it's a nice area. Big 10 football is pretty good." Rutgers: They have really come on recently. I liked meeting coach [Ed] Pinkham. He has talked to me about coach [Greg] Schiano. A few years ago I had never heard of Rutgers. It would be cool to go there with them on the rise." Paulsen attended the Under Armour/Scout.com Southeast Elite camp held April 27 in Auburn where he was one of the top performers at the event. "I thought it was a great camp," he said. "I thought I did really well. There were really some great players around me. I think the Southeast is the best area in the country. It was a real good experience."
