“I have about 15 offers right now,” said Jonathan Atchison. “My most recent offers are from Kentucky and Appalachian State. I have also received offers from Alabama, Auburn, Mississippi State, Central Florida, East Carolina, Wake Forest, Miami of Ohio, LSU, Indiana, Akron, Navy, Ole Miss, West Virginia and Louisville.”
“The only school who hasn't offered showing a lot of interest in Georgia. We have had a bunch of coaches come through here during the spring. We’ve had West Virginia, Mississippi State, Auburn, Alabama, Wake Forest, Kentucky, Louisville and Central Florida.”
“I am being recruited by everyone to play outside linebacker. I was playing tight end, but switched to outside 'backer. That was the best position for me and where I could see myself playing at the next level. Once I sent my film out the offers starting rolling in.”
“This summer I know for sure I am going to take unofficial visits to Alabama, Auburn, Kentucky, Mississippi State and Central Florida. I may attend Alabama’s camp as well. I took unofficial visit in the spring to Alabama and Central Florida."
Atchison talked more about the trips to Tuscaloosa and Orlando with one school in the lead.
”I really like Alabama," he said. "I have an open mind, but I have been talking to coach Nick Saban a lot. They are the top school school right now.”
“When I went down there I went for one of their Junior Days. I liked the campus and their facilities. I met with the coaches and walked on the field. Coach Nick Saban seems like a great guy. Coach Lance Thompson seems like a great guy as well.”
“Central Florida is in Orlando of course who wouldn’t like Orlando. Most of their facilities are brand new. It’s real nice down there as far as facilities. It’s an up-and-coming program. The facilities really caught my eye.”
This talented prospect recorded 112 tackles and 12 sacks as a junior. He added 14 catches for 370 yards and five touchdowns as well.
“I am 6-foot-3, 215-pounds," Atchinson said. "I want to bulk up a little bit. I have the speed for the position. I am focusing on gaining about five-10 pounds this summer. I am real good at pursuing to the ball. My biggest strength is getting to the ball and making plays. I can run.”
Atchison expects to make a decision before the beginning of the 2008 season. He knows the factors which will play an important role in the process.
“I kind of have my mind set on making my decision at the end of the summer," he said. "I want to focus on having a great senior season."
"I am basically going to be looking at the program itself as far as athletics. I would say academics, location and the players are major factors as well."
