Justin Brown, the 6-foot-1.5, 265-pound three-star defensive tackle from Compton, Calif., doesn't have any scholarship offers yet, but is being recruited by top programs across the country.
"I'm getting a lot of letters and hearing from a lot of schools," Brown said. "So far though, my coach is handling most of that and talking to them, so we'll see who offers first."
He said he favors USC and UCLA solidly over Arizona State, Oregon and LSU. "I'm really keeping my options open though," he said. "These are just the main ones I like right now. I want to try and visit as many schools as I can."
Brown, Scout.com's No. 52 defensive tackle, plans on attending a summer camp at Arizona State and will be at the Under Armour/Scout.com Combine in Los Angeles on May 31.
"Arizona State seems pretty interested," he said. "I like the area there and it would be nice to get away a little. I'm really excited to go to the camp and check out the campus and everything."
Brown says he followed the local teams, USC and UCLA, as a youngster. "I like USC because they are always winning," he said. "They have great tradition and it's a good program every year. They send a lot of guys to the NFL and it's a place where you can get a lot of exposure.
"UCLA is real nice too," Brown said. "I like the players they have and I knew a few guys who went there," he said. "I also like coach Rick Neuheisel. He's kind of cool. I think they are definitely a team on-the-rise."
Brown says he attended the junior days at both USC and UCLA.
"My goal is to come into school and really try to get on the field early," he said. "I really want to find a place where I fit in and where I'll be able to make a difference."
Another school on Brown's list is LSU. "The coaches have actually been out to my school and they have a great team," he said. "They are the national champions and I've heard great things about them. They are supposed to have really nice facilities."
Brown benches 345-pounds, squats 425 and claims a 29-inch vertical jump.
"I can get after the ball and change direction real good," he said. "I've got a good bull rush and like to use my hands. I play fast and aggressive."
He says he wants to continue improving his speed and quickness.
Brown reports a 3.0 core GPA and is taking the SAT on June 7.
