A hot name popping up on the recruiting scene is J.T. Kerr, a 6-foot-4 tight end out of Scripps…
Coaches Keeping Eye on Kerr
San Diego (Calif.) Scripps Ranch tight end J.T. Kerr has definitely benefited by being at the same school as Tate Forcier, the #17-ranked quarterback in the nation. When Kerr transferred to Scripps Ranch from Fallbrook High he wasn't quite sure if college coaches would keep track of him. But this spring it certainly helped when many college coaches came to Scripps Ranch to check out Forcier – and ended up seeing Kerr also. "It's been great with the schools coming to see Tate because a lot of these schools are asking about me now," said Kerr. It definitely was a factor in garnering a few scholarship offers for Kerr, and he's seen interest from many schools pick up. "Arizona, Nebraska and San Diego State offered me," Kerr said. "I'm talking a lot with Oregon and UCLA. Coach Neal (at Oregon) said he was blown away by me and I'm the best tight end they've seen this year. (UCLA) Coach (Tim) Hauck just talked with me and he said they really like me and want me to come up to their 1-Day Camp this weekend." And it doesn't stop there. Kerr said, "I'm also hearing from Duke, Boise State, Wake Forest, Maryland and Penn State." Kerr, who is now attending the alma mater of NFL tight end Kellen Winslow II, said that with the recent interest he has formed a list of his top five schools. "My top five schools are definitely Arizona and Nebraska because they've offered me, but also UCLA, Wake Forest and Oregon. And they're all even," he said. At 6-4 and 233, and now after many schools have seen him in person, Kerr said the interest is coming strictly as a tight end, and he doesn't see himself making any kind of positional switch. "Every school is talking to me as just a tight end," said Kerr. Because of the recent interest, and possibly more offers, Kerr now feels he can take his time to make a decision, go to more camps and possibly generate even more offers. "I haven't decided when I want to commit, but I'll wait until I know it feels right," said Kerr. "I'll take some visits too if I have to." Kerr camped at the UnderArmour/Scout.com Combine last weekend and this weekend he'll be at UCLA's 1-Day Camp while also planning to visit USC for their camp later in the spring. Academically, Kerr has a 3.5 GPA and scored a 1460 on the SAT.
