Recruiting Update: Trent Murphy

Phoenix Brophy Prep DE Trent Murphy watching three schools closely early in recruiting process

Phoenix (Az.) Brophy defensive end Trent Murphy offered a breath of fresh air yesterday when I spoke to him. While most kids are focused on their recruiting, Murphy, who carries a 3.7 GPA, ws more concerned with his academics.

He tells Scout.com that recruiting took a backseat while prepping for his SAT, "I just took my SAT yesterday. I wanted to get that out of the way. So recruiting has been a little slow. I still have the five offers (Utah, Stanford, Arizona, Arizona State and Colorado) but I am still sending out my highlights. Oregon requested them and so did some schools in California."

Murphy (6-5 230) says that Oregon and Washington have contacted him and he feels they both may be close to offering.

With the SAT out of the way, Murphy is full speed ahead towards getting ready for his senior year. Having missed part of his junior year with an injury, the fire burns even deeper. He says, "I have been getting up and working out every day at 6 am." He will no interuptions in his training as he says he has no plans to attend any summer camps and does not have any unofficial visits scheduled, "I don't really feel that I have to go to any camps, unless a coach really wants me to." He adds, "I talked to the d-line coach at Stanford (Lance Anderson) and I am going to go out there and visit but I have not set a date yet. I just did the big man camp at ASU with my teammates."

So do not expect an early commitment for Murphy, "I will wait until I narrow my list down but if nothing else were to change I would say that Stanford, ASU and Oregon would be my top three."
