Las Vegas (Nev.) quarterback Emir Lopez (6-0, 204) was one of the top passers at the Phoenix UnderArmour/Scout.com Combine last month.
Now, the prolific passer is hoping to turn several strong camp performances into an offer.
“I’ve been hearing from Oregon State, Southern Utah, Northern Arizona and Washington the most,” said Lopez. “And then everyone else, here and there.”
A handful of schools came by to see him throw, including Oregon State and UNLV, during the spring.
Last weekend, he visited Flagstaff to take in the Northern Arizona camp, and he’s hoping to visit a bunch of other school camps.
“I’m pretty much open, but if I had to choose, I’d stay on the West Coast,” said Lopez. “I’d like to go somewhere close by, somewhere that is high on academics and tradition.”
And Lopez is in no rush to make a decision.
“I want to wait until the end of the year and see what my options are before I make a decision,” said Lopez.
Lopez played his junior year at Sierra Vista, and threw for over 1,700 yards on a running team, leading them to the playoffs, and finishing second statistically in the conference.
He was the Team MVP and Offensive Player of the Year and Second Team All Conference and led all juniors in passing in the state and was second overall.
This season, he’ll play at Las Vegas.
“Yeah, its exciting definitely because with the spread, we’re going to pass 30-35 times a game,” said Lopez.
Academically, Lopez has a 3.0 GPA and took the SAT earlier this month.
