Texas Standout Corner Holding Three

The Lone Star state is once again loaded to the gills with division one talent. Perhaps one of Texas' best kept secrets is cornerback Phillip Gaines of Converse Judson High School. The standout has three college offers with more on the way.

"I have offers from Texas State, Mississippi State and Northwestern," said Gaines. "I just went to the TCU camp. I ran a 4.36 in the 40 and I did the pro agility in 3.9 flat."

With a trip to Waco completed, Phillip has a few other excursions planned for later in the summer.

"I am going to the Baylor camp this weekend and then I am going to the SMU camp later," said Gaines. "I am going to try to get out to Northwestern and Mississippi State. They both have great academics and they would provide a lot of opportunities later in life if football didn't work out. Right now my main thing is football."

With three options in hand, Gaines has had the chance to contemplate his future a bit. One school has the early lead.

"Right now, I really like Mississippi State," said Phillip. "They have one of the best secondary coaches in the the whole nation. I call coach Smith about once a week. We have a close relationship. We can just talk straight with each other. We don't have to beat around the bush."

Gaines has not set a time frame for a decision, but he reports the chance to play in the SEC would be extremely hard to pass up.

"TCU says they are going to start recruiting me, so they may offer," said Phillip. "I am in no hurry to decide. I am just going to enjoy the ride, but Mississippi State is going to be a big factor in my decision."
