"I committed a week ago from today, last Saturday (June 14)," said Brayden Burnett, the 6-foot-3, 240 pound four-star pound defensive end from Carroll High School in Southlake, Texas. "Michigan had told my dad they are offering me, but I canceled my visit to Ann Arbor to commit to Missouri. I took a trip up there last week and absolutely loved it.
"I was also scheduled to visit Arizona State this past week but I canceled as well," he said. "I had made up my mind a little before my trips that I wanted to play in the Big 12. I had always grown up a Texas fan so I’m glad I will get to play Texas, Texas A&M and Oklahoma - as well as the easy access for my all my family which is here in Dallas to travel around to the games.
"My mom works for American Airlines so her and my dad can fly up to Missouri anytime to see me play there as well.
"So I went from there and visited Colorado first and really liked Boulder," Brayden said. "Then the following week I went up to Columbia, and I had already expected to like it just with Mizzou being so successful and having Southlake Carroll players, like Chase Daniel as well as offensive lineman Mike Prince. Also, them being on the rise and finishing number four in the nation this past year was very promising. I know Missouri isn’t slowing down anytime soon with the great recruiting class they just had. So I already liked Missouri from a fan’s standpoint.
"So when I got up there I had a great visit, loved the campus, facilities, coaches, players, and business school. I met with Coach Kuligowski, who is the d-line coach, and he and Coach (Dave) Steckel, my recruiter, made it very clear they want me at DE and not DT - so I was really comfortable in making my commitment to Mizzou.
"Also compared to the other schools, I was comfortable with Missouri’s 4-3 defense compared to California and Virginia’s 3-4, where they were recruiting me as an outside linebacker, DeMarcus Ware-type pass rush linebacker," he said. "Overall Coach (Gary) Pinkel made my dad and I very comfortable and I felt secure Missouri was the place for me."
Burnett reports a 3.98 core GPA (4.0 ceiling) and took his SAT on 6/7/2008.
