Magnolia DB turning some heads
Posted Jun 22, 2008
Last season the 6' 1", 180 pound athlete had 77 tackles, 7int's, and 20 pass break-ups for Holly Springs. He even chipped in 10 TD's and had over 500 receiving yards.
Kinkle was named the Region 1(3A) Player of the Year for his play on the field.
"I played big on defense," added
. "I got a lot of tackles in the backfield. I got a lot of picks. I caught the ball real good. I had a better season that I expected . I made a lot of big plays. I made a lot of 3rd and 4th down stops and game winning TD's and tackles. It was a breakout year for me."
Darryl was still a relatively unknown commodity going into the summer camps but has caught the eye of several after his performances.
"I ran a 4.37 at the Memphis camp last week, and I had a real good camp at Ole Miss. Their coaches were really impressed with me."
How did Kinkle's overall experience go at the OM passing camp?
"It was a lot of fun. It was real nice. It was fun to be competitive. I wanted to show myself since they have been recruiting me real hard. It was a good environment. That is really the place I want to be. We made it to the Final 4. Last year, we lost about every game. This year, we almost won it all. It gave our team a lot of confidence going into the season."
When did the Rebels start recruiting Kinkle?
"In May they came to our school. Coach Markuson came first and then he called me. Then Coach Vaughn came by the school and watched me practice. He gave me his number, and I have been calling him ever since."
The relationship between Darryl and Chris Vaughn seems to building.
"We just became friends instantly. We are really getting to know each other. We are just building a relationship, between a coach and a player. Hopefully, I will be getting a scholarship from them soon."
Who else is recruiting Kinkle?
"Memphis, USM, Tulane, Alabama, and Auburn a lot. There are some other SEC schools like MSU and Tennessee, but they are just writing me."
Anymore coaches that Darryl has built a good relationship with?
"The USM coaches call a lot. Really, all of the coaches from those teams have been talking to me a lot lately."
"Alcorn State, USM, Tulane, Memphis, Alabama, and Auburn all call a lot. Even Southern Cal called down here. I was not at home, but he talked to my coach."
Which colleges is Darryl going to check out this summer?
"I have already been to Memphis and Ole Miss. Next I am going to MSU and then to USM, and then I am headed back to Ole Miss' Sr camp. I am also going to one of the Alabama camps."
Which colleges are at the top of Darryl's wish list?
"Really, I just like Ole Miss. Well, add Alabama to that list too. I really liked the camp at Alabama last year. They are talking pretty good to me. They want me to come back because I showed myself well my Jr year. My interest is really in Ole Miss and Alabama."
Kinkle expands on Alabama.
"I like the environment down there. I also like the facilities and how the staff talks. We did a lot of individual drills at their camp. They have good coaches, and a great academic staff. I know Ole Miss has great facilities and an academic staff too. I am a big fan of
(at Alabama) and
(at Ole Miss). I just like those two schools."
Darryl reports a 2.9 GPA / 18 ACT.
