Redd Commits to Central Michigan

Malek Redd came to the Under Armour/Scout.com Combine in Baltimore, Md., ready to work and then attended camp at the University of Michigan and impressed just as much, earning a scholarship offer from Central Michigan and forcing the Wolverine coaching staff to keep him for an extra day. Today that visit paid off as he gave his verbal commitment to CMU.
While diminutive in stature, River Hill High School running back
Malek Redd
has the speed, agility and quickness to be a dangerous ball carrier at the Division I-A level. Today the 5-foot-6, 160-pound burner officially ended his recruitment when he committed to
Central Michigan
after a tour of the campus. Redd was also getting looks from many other schools including
Michigan
.
“I committed to Central Michigan about 30 minutes ago,” Redd said. “I went up there with my teammate
Leron Eaddy
and while he was participating in the camp I went on a tour and talked with the head coach a lot who was walking around with me. I also got the chance to speak with the academic advisors about my major of sports management to see how they handled that.”
“I knew I wanted to commit to them the whole time, but wasn’t sure that I was going to do it today,” Redd explained. “Then I sat down with the coaching staff and talked to them and decided to just go ahead and commit on the spot.”
“One thing that really helped was getting to talk to a few of the players about their experience there,” Redd stated. “I talked to their quarterback
Dan LeFevour
for a long, lone time and he told me the coaches there are real and don’t just act a certain way to get you there. He told me they are all about you and your family, so it really came down to me being very comfortable at CMU.”
Redd’s teammate from Clarksville, Md., Leron Eaddy, was also offered a scholarship and Redd will be doing his best to secure that commitment for the Chippewas as well.
