San Diego (Calif.) Mission Bay athlete Dillon Baxter knew it was a matter of time before USC offered him.
After a strong showing at the Rising Stars Camp this week, Baxter got the news he was waiting for and wasted no time taking up the Trojan staff on the offer.
"I committed to USC today," said Baxter. "It's a great school and Coach (Pete) Carroll takes care of you. I'm excited to be playing there."
Baxter was plenty familiar with the coaching staff, having camped there last spring.
"We knew each other really well, so I knew they would be offering me soon," said Baxter. "I didn't see any reason to wait."
With 20 months until Signing Day, Baxter said he was not upset to end the process early.
"I already knew where I wanted to go, so there wasn't a reason not to commit. Now I can just focus on my high school career the next two years and have fun playing high school ball," said Baxter.
Baxter said the coaches like him for a couple of positions.
"They offered me more as an athlete, but I'll play running back or receiver," said Baxter.
And the coaches were pleased to receive his commitment.
"The coaches were really excited that I committed and they welcomed me on board," said Baxter.
