Three Favorites for Damario Jeffery
"I went down to Auburn's camp about two weeks ago," said Damario Jeffery. "I am supposed to go to Virginia Tech next Friday, then I am going down to Alabama. I am not sure if I will compete in their camps. I want to see the level of competition when I get there." "I participated in Auburn's camp. I went out there not knowing if I was going to participate in the camp. I saw some good looking players and decided to work out. They had a lot of great players out there." "I toured their facilities afterward. I learned all about what is going on down there. It was a real good trip." "I enjoyed working out with their coaches. I figured out how they like their defensive backs to play. I really like the fact Auburn is willing to recruit me to fit into their scheme." "I thought their campus was good. I hope to go back in the fall to attend a game. I have heard a lot of good things about their atmosphere on game day. I know their fan support is great. Auburn is definitely a place that may be best for me." Schools are beginning to separate themselves from the pack as Jeffery lists three SEC schools as overall favorites. "My favorites right now are South Carolina, Alabama, Auburn, Virginia Tech, Tennessee and Oklahoma," he stated. "My top three would be South Carolina, Alabama and Auburn in no particular order." "I like Virginia Tech a lot, but I don't think the ACC is the same level of competition as the SEC." Jeffery talked more in-depth of all the schools who have garnered his attention. South Carolina: "They have made me feel at home. I never really thought about them before. I know some football players there now. They have told me about the surroundings. All the coaches are cool. They talk to me about anything. They don't ask me when I am I going to commit." Alabama: "I love Alabama. The surroundings are crazy. I love the academic buildings, the facilities and the stadium. I love all the practice fields they have. They have the biggest weight room in the country. They are an old school SEC powerhouse. I also love coach [Nick] Saban." Auburn: "Auburn is sort of like Georgia to me. I have always been a fan of Auburn. They were the one other school besides Georgia who I grew up watching all of the time. They are always a top 10 school and always putting players in the NFL." Tennessee: "I haven't really seen much of Tennessee. They are an SEC school, and they put players in the league. I want to get up there for a visit soon." Oklahoma: "I like the fact Bob Stoops is a great coach. Oklahoma is one of the greatest programs. I go there--I know I am going to win. The rivalry between Texas is awesome. They are just a powerhouse." Virginia Tech: "They are like another Auburn and Georgia. I would cheer for them. They play big safeties. They would love to use me as a big safety. Virginia Tech runs a simple scheme. It would be easy to adjust." The Georgia Bulldogs were continuously referenced among Jeffery's favorites, but they have not offered. The other schools can forget about this prospect if coach Mark Richt decides to pull the trigger. "I have talked to Georgia a couple times,"Jeffery said. "They said they want to offer, but are limited in numbers. They don't know if I could play safety or linebacker. They don't want to get too many linebackers. They want to recruit safeties. If they offer I would commit on the spot. I told them straight up I would commit. That may be a reason why they are waiting." Jeffery had hoped to make a decision before the 2008 season, but maybe holding out for an offer is in the thought process. "My time frame is as soon as I figure out which school I am going to," he explained. "Sometime I think I am ready, then I want to see some more schools before I decide."
