Mission Viejo (Calif.) has been known to crank out some good quarterbacks in the past few years, but on the other end of those passes have been some solid receivers.
Allan Bridgford gets the attention for the Diablos on offense but when we spoke with him earlier this spring, he immediately gave the credit to his teammates, specifically receiver Kevin Chandler, who’s one of the top returning receivers in the Southland.
At 6-0, 185, Chandler is getting attention from several schools, and while he’s still waiting for the first offer to roll in, he’s been pleased with the attention.
“I’ve heard from Oregon State, Washington State, Texas Tech, Utah, Fresno State, Indiana, Villanova and San Diego State,” said Chandler. “A bunch of them said aren’t early offer teams but they do want to see me in camps or in person. Utah said they might offer sometime this summer or they might wait.”
The Utes are one of his top teams too, joining Oregon State and San Diego State.
“I also like the Arizona schools. I went up to Oregon State’s 1-Day Camp, but with our passing league schedule, I won’t be able to get to as many camps.”
Chandler, though, isn’t rushed into feeling he needs to make a decision.
“Honestly, I’d rather visit some schools and check them out first and I wouldn’t want to rush into anything,” said Chandler.
Chandler also isn’t particular about staying on the West Coast.
“I don’t really have a preference,” said Chandler. “Both of my parents’ family are from the East Coast so I’m pretty open to going anywhere.”
Chandler is coming off a strong junior season in which he earned First Team All-CIF Pac-5 Division honors, First Team all-South Coast League and Second Team all-Orange County for Mission Viejo. He had 67 receptions for 935 yards and eight touchdowns in 2007.
Academically, Chandler has a 3.67 and scored a 1670 on the SAT.
