The Big Ten Heads South
Eric McDaniel (Calhoun, GA) has been hitting the combines circuit hard in hopes of garnering more attention from the big schools. His performances have improved each time and so has his standing with some of the BCS schools. McDaniel picked up an offer from Purdue on Saturday, July 5th, increasing his offer total to five. Does the latest offer change things for the talented defender? "I'm excited about it because I've been talking to Coach Z for a while," McDaniel said. "He told me it was going to happen yesterday (Saturday, July 5th), and it did." Where does that put Purdue at this point? "That definitely puts Purdue in my Top Five." What does his Top Five look like now and is there a new leader? Louisville is my new leader and they are followed by North Carolina State, Purdue, Alabama and Auburn." How serious is McDaniel about the Boilermakers? "I'm taking a hard look at Purdue right now," he continued. "They are not very deep at my position and I think I could go in and compete early." I can't wait to set an official in the fall." Don't think that just because McDaniel has received an offer, he is automatically going to take an official visit. He is a student of the game and is a student of the recruiting process as well. He has been doing his homework on all of the schools he is interested in and he considers being as knowledgeable about a prospective school to be very important. Simply put, he wants to be as certain about his decision as the coaches do. "Knowing as much about the schools as I can is very important to me," McDaniel offered. "I don't want to go to a school just because of a big name...I want to go to a school with a great coaching staff and with great facilities." I also want there to be a need for my position so I have a chance to go in and compete early," he continued. "I am serious about academics and being successful in that area, so a good tutoring program is important, too." Eric McDaniel is a very sincere young man who pulls no punches, and he was able sum up his ultimate goal quite simply. "In the end, I just want to find the right school for me." In the end, I'll bet he does. Burke Hayes is the Southeastern Regional Manager for Football Recruiting at Scout.
