Los Angeles (Calif.) Crenshaw may not have a slew of elite recruits this year like in years past, but it does have cornerback Marcus Andrews (6-0.5, 175), who is the Cougars’ top prospect.

Already the owner of a Pac-10 scholarship offer, Andrews is hearing from several Pac-10 schools, and a Big East school, in the early going.

“The only school that has offered me so far is Washington,” said Andrews. “Schools like Syracuse, Nevada and Arizona State, those schools like me a lot and could be offering. I really like Oregon because they play the same style I like. And of course USC and UCLA.”

Andrews said Washington was the early favorite, thanks to their offer, but Arizona State is making a big run.

“Arizona State and Coach (Eric) Yarber, they tell me they like me a lot. Clint (Floyd) and Kemonte (Bateman) both talk about Arizona State a lot and tell me I should go there. If they offer, I’ll consider them really strongly,” said Andrews.

And the two L.A. schools have a built-in advantage of their proximity to home.

“USC always has a good program and it’s real close to my house,” said Andrews. “UCLA, I went to their camp and sent them some film. They said they want to see some of my game tape this fall so I’ll be sending some to them.”

Andrews said that has been a common theme, schools wanting to see a little more film from his senior year before making a decision to offer.

“I think there could be a few more offers, especially after the first few games. The schools liked my highlight tape, but they want to see the game film too to make sure my game film is like that. I’m willing to wait as long as necessary. It doesn’t matter to me. An offer is an offer. I’m in no rush to decide,” said Andrews.

Andrews said one advantage of playing at Crenshaw the past two years has been the opportunity to go up against players like Bateman and Floyd in practice.

“I think it really helped me out with Clint and Kemonte, getting a chance to cover them each day,” said Andrews. “I feel like I prepared myself for the knowledge of the game more because I was going up against good players every day.”

During his 2007 junior season at Crenshaw, Andrews earned all-Coliseum League honors with 36 tackles, five pass breakups, two picks and a fumble recovery.

Academically, he has a 2.8 core GPA.
