Woodside (Calif.) athlete Jason Simpson (5-11, 200) was one of the all-combine selections in Oakland at the UnderArmour/Scout.com Combine.
The two-way threat is hoping to land his first offer soon, and recruiting seems to be picking up for him.
“The recruiting has picked up a bit,” said Simpson. “Right now, I’m hearing a lot from Cal and Coach Gregory. I camped over at Cal. And Utah I’ve been in contact with. I stay in contact with UNLV. There are some other schools I’m hearing from as well.”
Simpson plays running back and safety, and schools who are recruiting him as an athlete, envision him on defense.
“Cal is recruiting me as an athlete, but from what Coach Gregory told me, ultimately, they look at me as a defensive back,” said Simpson. “I’d say they probably see me as a strong safety or free safety.
Simpson said that three schools stand out for him.
“Definitely Cal, Utah and then UNLV,” said Simpson. “Right now, I’m very open still because I don’t have anything and I’m listening to anyone. I don’t really have anyone ahead of each other, so I’m open.”
Simpson rushed for 912 yards and nine touchdowns during his 2007 junior season at Woodside and had 20 receptions for 318 yards and a pair of scores. He also returned two kickoffs for touchdowns.
Academically, he has a 3.17 GPA and scored a 1460 on the SAT.
