Neilsen accepts offer

Corey Nielsen to Hawai'i (Scout.com)

Scout.com learned Wednesday morning that Corey Nielsen, a 5-foot-11, 180-pound quarterback from Gahr High School in Cerritos, Calif., verbally committed to Greg McMackin and the Hawai'i Warrior after receiving a verbal offer on Tuesday. This news was also reported Wednesday by Stephen Tsai of the Honolulu Advertiser.

As a junior at Gahr, Nielsen led California in passing and was second in the nation in passing after throwing for 4,363 yards and 35 touchdown passes to five interceptions. He had a 65 percent completion percentage and five games where he threw for over 400 yards, including a 453-yard, six-touchdown game in the opener.

Nielsen was the San Gabriel Valley League MVP in leading Gahr to a 10-3 record and the CIF-SS Western Division semifinals.

At the time of his commitment, Nielsen also had a scholarship offer from Arizona. This is the second verbal commitment for the Warriors in as many days. Tuesday they received a pledge from St. Louis WR Billy Ray Stutzmann, younger brother of UH Graduate Assistant Craig Stutzmann.
