Frankie Telfort, the 5-foot-11, 205-pound four-star linebacker from Gulliver Prep in Miami, Fla., has 37 scholarship offers and says he hasn't narrowed down his list in the least.
"I should have my top five by the end of summer," Telfort said. "I'm still not sure yet. I want to go to a school that has a pharmacy school. That's going to be really big for me.
"I also want to make sure that they have a player on the team that is in the pharmacy school," he stated. "I heard that Tennessee has a football player in the pharmacy program now and another one that is thinking about it. That's good because I found out that the last time a football player at Florida was in their pharmacy school was in 1973. That's a long time."
Telfort recently went on the South Florida Express tour and visited South Carolina, Clemson, Tennessee, South Florida and Florida State. "Tennessee really stood out for me," he said. "Then I'd say it was Clemson and USF.
"Tennessee is just beautiful," he said. "The scenery there is great and I loved all the mountains and the whole environment. Plus, it's like a family there with everyone working together and helping each other."
Telfort doesn't have any official visits set up yet, but is scheduled to attend the Florida/Miami game on September 6 at Gainesville. "It'll be interesting to see how Miami does," he said. "They haven't played each other in a while and I just hope it's a good game."
The Gators, Telfort says, are recruiting him the hardest. "(Cornerbacks) Coach Vance Bedford emails me like everyday," he said. "I have a good relationship with him. He talks to me man-to-man and is very real."
Another school that Telfort says he'd like to visit for a game is Ohio State. "I'd really like to see a game there and check out the atmosphere," he said. "They've been in big bowl for like the past three years and it just seems like they need a little push to get to that next level. They are a winning team and I think I could fit in well with their defense."
Winning is very important to Telfort who admits he'd rather not go to a team with a losing record.
"That's why I like USC," he admitted. "They win. The Trojans are great. It's California. It's the first round draft picks. It's the national championships. It's USC."
But Telfort says that despite his interest in Ohio State and USC, the SEC is his favorite conference. "The SEC is great," he said. "It's known for speed and it's basically always a toss up who's going to win it because there are so many good teams."
One team that Telfor admits he definitely hopes to learn more about is Wake Forest. "I've heard it was a great place and they've been doing pretty well recently," he said. "I want to see what they are like and I'll try to visit them too."
All of the schools mentioned above have offered Telfort. Some of his other offers are Alabama, Stanford, LSU, Minnesota, Ole Miss, Georgia Tech, Wisconsin and West Virginia, among others.
Although Telfort says he doesn't know when he's going to commit, he knows how. "My mom set it up so we're having an ESPN crew at the house," he said. "We just don't have a date set."
Telfort reports a 3.3 core GPA and took the SAT in June. He's taking the ACT in September.
