"I really like Washington and California," Deandre Coleman said. "U-Dub is recruiting me the hardest and I love coach Tyrone Willingham. He's a great person and is all about helping his players and making them better people and makes sure they stay focused on school. Cal is a top team that wins. I really like my position coach there (defensive line coach Tosh Lupoi). He's a young guy..."

Deandre Coleman, the 6-foot-4, 285 pound four-star defensive tackle from Garfield High School in Seattle, Wash., now has about 10 scholarship offers and continues to favor the same two programs.

"I really like Washington and California," Coleman said. "U-Dub is recruiting me the hardest and I love coach Tyrone Willingham. He's a great person and is all about helping his players and making them better people and makes sure they stay focused on school."

The Huskies were Coleman's childhood favorite and are only about one mile from his house, although he admits that distance won't be a big factor. "I'd prefer to stay in a big city," he said. "But distance don't matter.

"I think I'd be able to play early at Washington," he said. "It's a good program that is getting better and I could be a big part of that."

Although Coleman hasn't had a chance to visit Cal yet, he said he hopes to visit Berkeley this fall. "Cal is a top team that wins," he said. "I like their coaches too.

"I really like my position coach there (defensive line coach Tosh Lupoi)," he said. "He's a young guy and very energetic. I really think there's a lot he can teach me."

Trailing the Huskies and the Bears are Arizona State, Arizona, LSU and Colorado, all of which have offered. He also has offers from Oregon, Washington State, and Texas A&M.

"I want a school that is winning or at least is up-and-coming," Coleman stated. "I also really want to play early and will be looking at their depth chart. I want to go somewhere I can help out and make a difference on the team."

Coleman, ranked as the No. 19 defensive tackle in the country by Scout.com, plans to take all five official visits before making a decision. He says he has no timetable for a decision.

One of Coleman's more recent offers was from Colorado. "They are an up-and-coming team too," he said of the Buffs. "I think I could probably play early there and make an impact. I don't really know much else about them."

The offer that surprised Coleman the most was from LSU. "They are the champions right now," he said. "It's great that they offered me. They have a great defense and they seem to send a lot of d-linemen to the NFL so they must be doing something right."

The other two schools that Coleman will likely take official visits to are Arizona and Arizona State. "Arizona has pretty good coaches and they are getting better," he said.

"I've heard it's a nice place and I just think that I could like it there," he said of the Wildcats.

"Arizona State did real good last year," he said. "I think they'll be even better this season and I really want to go there and see what it's like in person."

Coleman didn't attend any camps this summer because he was taking a math class in summer school. He reports a 2.5 core GPA and took the ACT in June, but claims not to know his score. "I'm not sure," he said. "I know I got it back, but I've got to see what the score was."
