Isaac Holmes, the 6-foot-3, 290 pound three-star defensive tackle from Hoboken, N.J., now has around 26 scholarship offers, but says that three stand out.
"It's really between Rutgers, Maryland and Pittsburgh right now," Holmes said.
Rounding out his top five are Florida and Oklahoma, all of which have offered.
Holmes didn't attend any camps during this summer, but has already visited Rutgers and Maryland. "I've always liked Rutgers," he said. "They are the home school and they've been showing me a lot of love.
"The coaches are great and they are showing me a lot of interest," Holmes said. "They keep in touch all the time and I get mail and stuff from them everyday, plus they don't just ask about me but take time to know about my family too."
Holmes' former teammate and cousinBearthur Johnson plays offensive tackle for Maryland. "He really likes it and tells me all the good points about them," he said. "But he wants me to make the right decision for me and isn't pressuring me to go there.
"I feel like I can really relate to the coaches (at Maryland) well," he said. "My parents also really like Maryland. It's a great environment and I feel comfortable there."
In August, Holmes plans to visit both Pittsburgh and Florida. "Pittsburgh was one of the first schools to start recruiting me and they've been after me for a long time," he said. "I want to go out there and see what it's like. I know the program is real good and I like the coaches."
He admits the Gators are another program that he used to like when he was younger. "It's just one of those schools I've always liked," he said. "They pretty much guarantee you you'll go to a BCS bowl game and play for the SEC or national championship."
Although he probably won't have chance to visit Oklahoma before the end of summer, he admits the Sooners aren't out of the equation. "They've really been recruiting me a lot recently," Holmes said. "They also put it in my head that I could play early there."
Holmes, ranked as the No. 26 offensive guard in the country by Scout.com, also has offers from Oregon, Michigan, Michigan State, USF, Tennessee, Miami, USC, Virginia, West Virginia and several others.
"Right now I'm leaning towards committing early," he said. "I'd like to be able to enjoy my senior season. I'll see how August goes and see if I can take a few more visits and decide.
"My family wants me to wait it out a bit," he said. "But I don't plan on waiting too long."
Holmes says he wants to major in criminal justice and reports a 3.2 core GPA and an 1140 SAT.
